Finché nel quadro trovai la mia bellezza.
In un angolo, nella parte destra in basso, la testa bionda di un soldato morto.
Senza più elmo o armi, a occhi chiusi e con un braccio disteso a terra, la mano
aperta, in pace dentro a tutto quel tumulto. Ne ammirai la verità, la precisione,
immaginai il colpo che l’aveva abbattuto. Dimenticai i cavalli impennati, le spade rivolte contro il cielo, la ferocia dei volti. Tutto il quadro mi sembrò dipinto solo per quel particolare, perché io lo scoprissi.
